Busker Rug (2020)

An easily transportable rug to delineate space around NYC subway musicians to help them feel more secure, respected, and comfortable.
After extensive observational research and interviews with buskers themselves, we designed and hand-tufted a rug. We ask the public to recognize a rug as part of a private space (i.e. the home) and therefore treat a musician's space in the subway with more care.
Proof of concept: people avoid stepping on a rug we placed under a performer
